My first instinct is no, I might spend a lot of time painting certain models like this guy. but there is no way i am spending nearly that much time on non character models. I might spend an hour or two on average model, that is more than enough time to clean assemble, base coat and get several good layers and maybe a layer of wash, or a highlight. thats it.
For me I am more interested in playing the game than making sure my models look amazing. So there is no way you can convince me to spend more time on my normal troops. Even playing against other people in an actual GW store has done very little to boost my desire on spending more time on said models.
so for me its all about a judicial use of my time and effort. I have limited time and a limited care-ability. I will spend more time on armies and units that i play a lot. if i just get a model or unit or army because i felt like it I wont paint that much of it.
so in the end it depends. I understand the appeal of making a beautiful model, but its not for me. I would love to hear your opinions on to paint or not to paint; admit it you knew that was coming.
but...but...what about the 'Armies on parade'?
ReplyDeletelol, I always aim for 'table top quality' especially as I favor horde armies. Up close they may not be too pretty (though there always random exceptions to that), but from standing height, it looks good.
That is all I ever go for with big units Cheef lol.
ReplyDeleteI agree Cheef. For me I am more likely to get the basics done on a whole army than spend all my time on a few choice units. I believe a whole army given a few good layers looks much more awesome than a few completely painted and bedazzled units and characters.
ReplyDeleteI spend a ridiculous amount of time painting my armies, but I know I am unusual in the fact that I am a die hard painter. One thing that I have found, that may work for you if you were inclined is paint the entire army up to table top quality (treating yourself to the"showpieces"), and then once it's all done go back ad bring them all up to the next level. For example: first stage is showroom new, then weathered, then battle damage. Works for me and keeps a consistency.
ReplyDeletegood idea voril. As I said this is definitely the best paint job I have done, and have reached the end of my know how.so i will have a few practice rounds before i start going full blow at it. Let me ask you voril as a die hard painter do you ever fully paint, or mostly paint, a model still on the sprue. I have thought about it but never done it, guess i am afraid i will never finish painting that particular model and thus never build it, the whole point for me.
